Today’s Destination of Day, I am devoting to a place I am escaping to in three weeks with my VP, May Laughton a.k.a. (So May). We had a few days to getaway while the boys are out fishing at the beginning of June and we wanted to do something a little different. So I started seeking out writing retreats and I found this writers’ weekend in Manzanita, Oregon and we are beyond excited. Out of all the places we have traveled, I would say stateside is where we are lacking the most and this is one area I have been wanting to dive in.
This retreat takes place at the Hoffman Center of Arts which is located right on the ocean in this quaint little town full of beachside cottages, restaurants, coffee shops, and little boutiques. Located just a little over 98 miles from Portland, Oregon. The weekend is full of workshops and private sessions to build your writing skills, tips on reading in front of an audience, the business side of publishing, and tools to help you commit to the writing life.
Authors Jennie Shortridge and Megan Kruse will lead these skill building workshops in this magical place on Oregon’s coast.
We are so excited to meet, Megan Kruse, she released her first Hawthorne Book in March 2015. Megan teaches fiction along with writing workshops at Eastern Oregon University. She also won the Pacific Northwest Book Award in 2016 and one of the National Book Foundation’s 5 Under 35 for 2015.
We get to learn from some the best writers during this three day weekend. Jennie Shortridge has published 5 novels, including Love Water Memory and When She Flew. Jennie’s books have been selected as American Booksellers Associations’ Indie NEXT pics. She is also a co-founder of Seattle7Writers, a non-profit collective of Northwest authors who raise money and awareness for literature and literacy.
